I. Project Background and Needs

A large-scale integrated pig farming enterprise plans a fundamental upgrade to its traditional nursery pens. Its core needs directly address industry pain points: completely solving the corrosion and rust problems of metal materials, eliminating the aging and damage risks of ordinary plastics, and on this basis, creating a truly clean, dry, and comfortable growth space for environmentally sensitive weaned piglets, while achieving an ultra-long service life and the lowest total life-cycle cost.


II. Innovative Solution: Modular All-PVC Rigid Board System

The project team proposed a groundbreaking concept—using food-grade PVC rigid boards, proven in highly corrosive chemical environments, to create a completely new nursery pen system.


1. Revolutionary Material Selection

The core material selected is 1015 mm thick unplasticized PVC rigid board. This material has three decisive advantages: First, it has absolute resistance to water, disinfectants, and weakly corrosive gases in the farm environment, fundamentally eliminating rust. Secondly, its extremely smooth and non-porous surface prevents dirt and pathogens from adhering or penetrating, allowing for thorough rinsing with a high-pressure, high-temperature water gun to achieve "operating room-level" cleanliness. Finally, the material itself possesses excellent strength and toughness, resisting the long-term biting, friction, and impacts of daily management operations by pigs.


2. Integrated System Design

The solution is not a simple replacement of sheet materials, but a deeply integrated system.

Modular Pens: The side panels, partitions, and doors of the nursery pens are all designed with standard-sized PVC panels, connected by stainless steel fasteners or special slots, enabling rapid installation and flexible layout adjustments.


Integrated Slatted Floor: This is one of the core highlights of the design. The slatted floor, precision-machined from rigid PVC board, has scientifically calculated seam widths that ensure smooth drainage of feces while perfectly protecting the delicate hooves of piglets from injury. The back of the floor can be designed with a reinforced structure, providing excellent load-bearing capacity.


Integrated Environmental Control: Leveraging the easy processing properties of PVC material, components such as insulation panels, windproof curtains, and even integrated water dispenser bases are integrated into the main structure, minimizing gaps, eliminating hygiene dead spots, and optimizing the microclimate within the enclosure.


3. Revolutionary Construction and Maintenance Model

All components are prefabricated in a factory environment, and on-site installation is like building a high-precision model, greatly shortening construction time and ensuring quality. During the subsequent ten-year or longer service life, maintenance is simplified to the extreme—only routine washing and disinfection are required, without any rust prevention, repainting, or repair work. Even in the event of accidental damage, only a single panel needs to be replaced, resulting in extremely low maintenance costs.


III. Expected Implementation Results

The expected results of this solution are comprehensive and far-reaching.


In terms of economic benefits, although the initial equipment investment is higher than traditional galvanized steel railings, its core value lies in its extremely low total life-cycle cost. Because the equipment is corrosion-free and virtually maintenance-free, it completely eliminates the need for anti-corrosion treatment, mid-term replacement, and repair costs due to rust damage—essential for traditional metal pens over a ten-year lifespan—significantly reducing overall costs in the long run.


In terms of production efficiency, the improvements are even more crucial. The absolutely clean PVC surface and high-standard disinfectability significantly reduce the probability of bacterial and viral retention, establishing a solid barrier for biosecurity. Excellent insulation and a gentle surface feel, combined with slatted flooring that doesn't injure hooves, provide an optimal growth environment for weaned piglets, directly contributing to a reduction in the incidence of diseases such as diarrhea, thereby improving survival rates and daily weight gain.


In terms of management and environmental protection, the system brings revolutionary convenience to livestock management. Its unparalleled ease of cleaning reduces preparation time for pen washing, disinfection, and drying by more than half, significantly improving batch turnover efficiency. From an environmental perspective, PVC rigid panels can be fully recycled after their service life ends, avoiding soil pollution caused by rust products from traditional metal enclosures and eliminating the problem of non-degradable plastic waste, which aligns with the sustainable development direction of modern aquaculture.
